When did 9am count as “waking up early”? In any case, finally, a sunny day! We’reheading out to The Nezu Shrine today. It’s got cute, tiny torii gates and wanted to go there so we didn’t have to go to the giant, super crowded Fushimi Inari Shrine.
There, look how pretty it is! The sunny weather certainly helped. Spent a little while longer checking out the inside, getting some not-so-good fortunes, and taking photos of the ume and sakura blossoms.
Alrighty, time to trek our way up to Yanaka Ginza which is a traditional shopping street that we learnt about in Kentaro: The Sweet Tooth Salaryman where he went to Waguriya. It’s about a 1.5km walk along some quiet streets so it was pretty nice.
Just walking along the street checking everything out was interesting and then we happened upon this cat tail place where we were 100% confused whether it was food for pets or food for people. Of course, the confusion hit after we bought some already. So, we sussed it out for a while, waiting for someone else to buy something while we Googled and found it was, in fact, people food! EAT IT!
Don’t know why we bought and ate this, when the plan was to go to Waguriya all along. Oh well, no explanations needed for food pitstops.
Even for someone who is not a fan of chestnut, I guess I can say I enjoyed it. Interesting flavour to try – not that I would go again. HAH. But if you’re a chestnut fan, definitely hit this place up. They also have chestnut soft cream – obviously I passed.
We had time to kill before our Pokemon Cafe booking so we hit up Akihabara. No idea why we go there since we aren’t really into all the hip/main/current anime things, but it seems like ‘the thing’ to do.
Chen enjoyed himself with Mario Kart and then we spotted a Bishi Bashi machine, so we had to play!
Spotted these really awesome Sailor Moon dolls!
Ok, that’s enough faffing around – time to head to Tokyo for the Pokemon Cafe experience!
We ended up being like an hour early so we wandered around the shop sending photos to the sister to see if she wanted to buy anything.
It was all a very formal experience walking into the cafe, but OMG, so exciting for Chen. We had designated seats and a strict 2 hour session. Should have purchased some exclusive goods, but we didn’t – Chen did get that Ghastly cup as a souvenir though.
