Hey ho, long time no blog! Back to blog again about my “recent” trip to Japan. One year ago. Did so many different things and great to look back on it. This time we went with Mum Chen and Dad Chen, and hit up Osaka and Kyoto too!
We arrived at Haneda Airport at a nice, reasonable 5:30 am. It was dark and rainy and cold, but I’m in Japan, so fuck it! Get through customs and be hit in the face by that fresh 6 am breeze at the bus stop.
We drop off Mum Chen and Dad Chen to their hotel which is like a million years away from Shinjuku Station, stopping by at a Family Mart on the way for a quick snack. The idiot that I am, I bought not only ice cream but also, accidentally, alcoholic ice cream…for breakfast on a 7°C, rainy morning. WIN! Ice cream #1 down.
Well, dropping off the luggage at the hotel was confusing since there were four of us there and only one room booked for Mum Chen and Dad Chen. The staff couldn’t understand that we were all travelling together but only two of us were checking in. After getting everything sorted it was peak hour so we did nnnoottt want to travel anywhere, so we chill at Starkbucks while waiting for Sekaido to open. I start feeling nauseous after a while and just think it must be the ice cream mixing with the alcohol content and whatever so I go for a walk to get out of the stuffy shop.
Finally, it’s almost time for Sekaido to open, so we head over and wait for the shutters to roll up. Yay, everybody fan out and parttyyyy….
Check out other places in Tokyo to get calligraphy & lettering supplies here
After buying all the calligraphy things, we only spent 1.5 hours in there, we pick up our luggage from the hotel and bring everything back home before heading out to Tokyo Station for lunch and all the underground goodness…including all the Sailor Moon goodies.
Chen’s parents refused to have sushi as the first proper meal in Japan because “it was too cold”, so it’s off to udon for us.
The good thing with traveling with more people is the extra food we get to order!
Standard Kitsune Udon [¥815] Set menu [¥ 1,080]
Many question marks about what the other two were. Obviously, I’m the fool who, once again, ordered something cold. It was good and worth it and I think I made my point about how sushi should have been the first meal…to no one other than myself.
Off to Character Street to check out my Sailor Moon goodies…I mean, we’re already here, might as well check it out…and buy some things.
It’s mid-afternoon when we finished up in Tokyo, so we dumped the parents off at their hotel in Shinjuku and hung around Tokyu Hands for a couple hours before having some …SUSHI! Finally.
Obviously, we were starving and super excited for sushi that we forgot to take more photos of the food. Standard.
Then it’s back home with an ice cream pit stop!
